Woman Designated Family Head in Madhya Pradesh, Breaking Tradition
In Mandsaur, India, a community decided to change an old tradition.
They used to have only men as the heads of families, but now, they are letting women take charge too!
After a man passed away, his daughter, who is a karate player, was given a special turban.
This turban usually goes to the oldest son.
It shows she is now the leader, just like a son would be.
This is a big step to show that girls and boys are equal and can both be leaders.
Namdev Chhipa community in Mandsaur, Madhya Pradesh, designated a woman as family head.
This decision overturned the tradition of only male family heads.
Srishti (Anjali), daughter of the deceased Rupesh Bagherwal, received the honor.
The 'pagri' (turban) ritual, typically for the eldest male, was performed for Srishti.
Community members aim to promote gender equality.
