India A Pacers Seek Selection Boost Against Australia A
India A is playing Australia A in a three-game one-day cricket series.
Three young fast bowlers—Gurjapneet Singh, Arshad Khan and Yash Thakur—hope to show that they can help India’s senior team.
Gurjapneet and Arshad bowl with their left arms, while Yash bowls with his right.
Hardik Pandya cannot play because he has a right shin injury.
His absence has made people pay closer attention to India’s other pace options.
The three bowlers have different amounts of experience in List A cricket.
Australia A includes Sam Konstas and Nathan McSweeney, who have played for Australia’s senior team.
Strong performances may help selectors consider the bowlers for future matches.
Gurjapneet Singh, Arshad Khan and Yash Thakur have an opportunity to press their case for senior national selection in a three-match one-day series.
The series begins Tuesday in Puducherry; the report does not specify its calendar date.
Hardik Pandya was ruled out indefinitely with a right shin injury, creating added focus on India’s pace and seam-bowling all-rounder options.
Gurjapneet and Arshad are left-arm seamers, while Thakur bowls right-arm; their reported List A records are 17 wickets in nine games, 15 in 11, and 90 in 57, respectively.
Their performances against Australia A, including players who have represented Australia, could inform selections ahead of India’s New Zealand ODI tour.
