India Celebrates 80th Independence Day with Calls for Responsibility
India has a special birthday every year called Independence Day.
It is a day when people remember that long ago, India was not free and had to listen to other rulers.
This year, India is celebrating its 80th Independence Day, which happens on Saturday.
The day is also special because India's national song, 'Vande Mataram', is turning 150 years old.
Many people wrote letters to the newspaper to share their thoughts.
Some said that being free also means being responsible.
They reminded everyone to respect the national flag and the national anthem.
Others talked about problems like poverty, hunger, and corruption.
They said there is good news too: fewer people are poor now than before.
The writers hope young people will help make India a better country.
India is preparing for its 80th Independence Day, falling on Saturday, 15 August 2026.
The national song 'Vande Mataram' marks 150 years this Independence Day.
Readers recall the 1857 rebellion against the British East India Company as a milestone in the freedom struggle.
Global poverty studies, including the World Bank, report poverty has fallen from 56 per cent to 28 per cent, with 44 Indians lifted out of poverty every minute.
Letter writers urge citizens to uphold fundamental rights and to respect the tricolour and the national anthem.
