Railways Ordered to Pay ₹75,000 Over Crowded Reserved Berths

Railways Ordered to Pay ₹75,000 Over Crowded Reserved Berths

A family had paid for three reserved train berths.

When they boarded, many people without the proper reservations were using the reserved spaces and filling the coaches.

The family had to repeatedly ask people to move so they could use their own berths.

The crowded coaches also made it hard to walk around or reach the washroom.

The family complained through the RailMadad app and took photographs.

The Railways said its workers removed some unauthorised passengers, but it did not show enough proof to the commission.

The commission said the family did not receive the safe and reasonably comfortable journey they had paid for.

It ordered the Railways to pay the family ₹50,000 in compensation and ₹25,000 for legal costs.
