Endangered Caracal Rescued and Radio-Collared in Rajasthan
A team of wildlife experts rescued an endangered caracal, a type of wild cat, in Rajasthan, India.
This is a special kind of cat that is very rare and hard to find.
The team put a special collar on the cat that helps them track where it goes and what it does.
This is the first time anyone has done this with a caracal in India.
The cat was found in a trap and was taken care of by the experts before being released back into the wild.
The experts are now watching the cat to learn more about how it lives and to help protect it.
There are only about 50 of these cats left in India, so this is a big deal for helping to save them.
An endangered caracal was rescued from a trap in Ghotaru village, Jaisalmer district, Rajasthan.
The caracal was radio-collared for the first time in India to track and study its movements and behavior.
The operation was carried out by the Wildlife Institute of India (WII) and the Rajasthan Forest Department.
The caracal was found to be healthy after being examined and was released back into the wild on 25 January 2026.
The caracal is listed on the IUCN Red List, with only around 50 remaining in India, making this a significant conservation effort.
