Maruti Suzuki Chief Sees Opportunity for Indian Manufacturing
Maruti Suzuki’s CEO says India has a good chance to make more products for the world.
He explained that making more parts inside India is not enough by itself.
Products made in India must also be as good as the best products made anywhere.
Smaller companies that supply parts to carmakers will be important to this goal.
These suppliers need better technology, engineering skills and quality systems.
Workers and companies will also need to keep learning together.
The car industry has already managed problems such as chip shortages and supply-chain disruptions.
Government programs and growing demand may help India build stronger factories.
Takeuchi says reliability and steady production now matter almost as much as low cost.
Maruti Suzuki CEO Hisashi Takeuchi said India could become a trusted global automotive manufacturing and supply-chain hub.
He said Indian products must match the world's best quality standards, with quality becoming a defining strength.
Takeuchi identified deep localisation, people development, collective learning and technology as four competitiveness enablers.
He said Tier-2 and Tier-3 suppliers need stronger technology, engineering capabilities, quality systems and communication.
Government support, domestic demand, export potential and reconfigured global supply chains are creating opportunities for India.
