Maharashtra Contractors Seek Relief Amid ₹1,890 Crore Pending Dues

Contractors completed construction and development work for government departments in Maharashtra.

They say the government has not paid many of their bills.

About ₹1,890 crore is reportedly still pending in the Nagpur Public Works Circle.

Subodh Sarode, who leads a contractors’ association, says this has caused serious financial stress.

He said contractors cannot pay workers, suppliers, staff, lenders and other expenses.

Sarode also linked several contractor deaths and an attempted self-immolation to the unpaid bills.

The article names three reported suicide deaths and one attempted self-immolation, although it says five contractors died by suicide.

The association wants the government to clear the bills quickly and help affected contractors.
