RBI Conducts VRRR Auction to Manage Banking Liquidity
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) is holding an auction to take money out of banks.
Banks currently have too much money, about ₹3.75 lakh crore.
This auction, called VRRR, aims to manage interest rates and keep them within a certain range.
The RBI injected a large amount of money into the system since January.
Now, they are taking some of it back.
This move aims to keep overnight rates in check and the government securities market is watching closely.
More money is expected to enter the system from RBI’s surplus transfer and a reduction in the cash reserve ratio.
RBI will conduct a 7-day VRRR auction to drain excess liquidity.
The banking system has a surplus of approximately ₹3.75 lakh crore.
The RBI aims to steer the overnight rate on TREPS to the lower end of the LAF corridor.
The government securities market is concerned about further liquidity absorption measures.
₹9.5 lakh crore of durable liquidity was injected into the banking system since January.
