Bengaluru Dating App Scam Targets Tinder, Bumble Users

Bengaluru Dating App Scam Targets Tinder, Bumble Users

A warning is going around on social media about a new scam in Bengaluru, a big city in India.

It starts on a dating app like Tinder or Bumble, where two people match and agree to meet in person.

Then the match asks the other person to pay for her cab before the ride, saying her bank doesn't work at night or that she doesn't trust him.

She asks him to send the money straight to the driver instead of to her.

But the taxi booking may not be real, and the screenshots can be fake or edited.

Once the money is sent, the person blocks the victim and disappears.

The amounts people lose are usually small, but the tricks can add up.

Some people online said the warning signs were obvious, while others made jokes about the victims.

A news channel called WION said it could not confirm that this really happened.

The advice is to check cab bookings yourself and never send money to someone you haven't met in person.
