Himachal Sets Conditions for Kishau Project
The Kishau Multipurpose Project is a big dam planned on the Tons River between Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand.
Himachal Pradesh has told the central government that it won't pay for the project's construction.
Instead, it has asked for three things: the Centre should pay for the entire project, clear old debts of around Rs 4,000 crore, and solve problems related to people who had to leave their homes for previous dam projects.
The project is expected to cost Rs 11,500 crore and will generate a lot of electricity.
However, it will also affect many villages and people in both states.
Himachal and Uttarakhand are supposed to share 10% of the cost, but Himachal wants the Centre to cover this as well.
Uttarakhand also supports this idea.
The final decision will be made after considering these demands.
Himachal Pradesh refuses to bear financial expenses for the Kishau Multipurpose Project.
The state demands full central funding, clearance of Rs 4,000 crore arrears, and settlement of oustee issues.
The project is estimated to cost Rs 11,500 crore and will generate 660 MW of power.
Himachal and Uttarakhand are supposed to share 10% of the cost, but Himachal wants the Centre to cover this.
The project will impact around 2,092 people in Himachal and 3,406 people in Uttarakhand.
