Shops looted and damaged in Paris during October 17 protests

Shops in Paris were looted and damaged during unrest around demonstrations on October 17.

The affected businesses included card and video game shops, as well as Boxing Shop, a boxing store in the city's 10th arrondissement.

A large part of Boxing Shop's stock was stolen, including clothing, boxing shoes and high-end gloves, its manager, Yannick Bitton, said.

He said police could not come when he called because they were overwhelmed, and he found the store badly damaged when he arrived later that night.

The store's long history made the damage especially hard for him to see.

Bitton is unsure when the shop can reopen or whether it will be safe to replace its stock.

He plans to file a complaint and contact his insurer while the business is being cleaned up and secured.
