Sergio Erede, leading Italian business lawyer, dies at 86

Italian business lawyer Sergio Erede has died at 86 after an accidental fall at his home in Genoa; he died in hospital.

Born in Florence, he studied law in Milan and completed a master's degree at Harvard Law School before building his career in Italy.

He advised on major mergers, acquisitions and privatisations over more than 50 years, including deals involving Olivetti, Telecom Italia, Enel and Autostrade.

These transactions helped shape major Italian companies and industries, from telecommunications to transport.

Erede co-founded Bonelli Erede in 1999 with Franco Bonelli and Aurelio Pappalardo, after establishing earlier law firms.

He also advised prominent business families and served on the boards of several companies.

His firm says his professional legacy will endure, while Erede leaves his wife and a son.
