Nicolas Cage says he lost himself while filming Face/Off prison scene
Nicolas Cage says he lost himself in character while filming a prison scene for the 1997 thriller Face/Off.
The film stars Cage as terrorist Castor Troy and John Travolta as FBI agent Sean Archer, whose faces are switched through surgery.
Archer takes Troy’s appearance to enter a prison, but Troy later takes Archer’s face, leaving Cage to play Archer pretending to be Troy.
Cage began questioning whether the prison scene was real, asking himself who he was and whether he was in trouble.
He said the experience no longer happens to him and credited later work on his acting craft with helping him develop more control.
Cage also recalled director John Woo telling him to keep his back straight when he slouched during scenes.
A Face/Off sequel remains uncertain: director Adam Wingard left the project after creative differences, and no release date has been confirmed.
