Paju opens long-delayed road in Beopwon-eup

The city of Paju has opened a long-delayed road in Beopwon-eup, in South Korea's Gyeonggi Province.

The two-lane road is 301 metres long and 12 metres wide, serving the Daeneung-ri area.

It was first designated for construction in 1977, but remained unbuilt for decades and hindered local development.

Work moved ahead after planning approval in 2020, and construction began in May 2024.

The project cost 6.5 billion won, including compensation and construction costs.

The new route improves access for fire engines and ambulances in an area where emergency vehicles had difficulty getting through.

Paju says the road should ease residents' travel and support balanced development and the local economy.
