Indonesia Extends Education Aid to 888,000 Kindergarten Pupils
Indonesia’s education minister, Abdul Mu’ti, says the Program Indonesia Pintar (PIP) now includes kindergarten and early-childhood education.
First-time PIP aid is planned for 888,000 kindergarten pupils, extending the scheme to younger children.
PIP provides cash to students from poor or vulnerable families to help cover education costs and reduce the risk of leaving school.
Kindergarten and primary pupils receive Rp450,000 a year; the annual amount is Rp750,000 for junior high students and Rp1.8 million for senior high and vocational students.
In 2025, PIP reached 19 million students, with a total budget of Rp13.43 trillion, and the current distribution has reached 13.6 million students.
The 2027 target is 19.48 million recipients, including the 888,000 kindergarten pupils.
Students do not apply on their own: schools and relevant agencies identify and verify recipients, who receive a student savings account book and a debit or ATM card to access the money.
