Sophie Adenot says she has recovered after eight months on the ISS
French astronaut Sophie Adenot has returned to Earth after spending eight months aboard the International Space Station.
On November 2, she held her first French press conference since completing a three-week rehabilitation programme in Cologne, Germany.
The programme helped her regain balance and coordination, which can be affected by living in weightlessness.
Adenot says she is as fit as before, or even fitter, and said early measurements found no loss of bone density or muscle mass, with increases in some areas.
She said these findings could offer hope to people with osteoporosis, older people and those with degenerative diseases.
She also spoke with emotion about hardship in France, including young people’s anger, and said she wants them to believe in the future.
Adenot said she dreams of walking on the Moon, but has not started negotiating what comes next in her career.

She made the remarks at her first news conference since finishing the programme, at the European Space Agency’s headquarters in Paris on 2 November.
Adenot said early measurements showed no loss of bone density or muscle mass, and increases in some areas of her body.
She described returning to Earth as difficult and said she was glad to rediscover everyday experiences, including hearing rain on a roof window.
In a separate interview, she spoke emotionally about social suffering in France and said she hoped to give young people reason to believe in the future.
