Kone gives 15,000 technicians an AI assistant to diagnose elevator faults
Kone has given 15,000 maintenance technicians an AI assistant to help diagnose faults in elevators and escalators, including in Spain.
The tool, called Technician Assistant, searches technical documents, service histories and past repairs, as well as data from nearly 800,000 connected machines worldwide.
It suggests possible causes, but technicians make the final decision using their own experience and judgement.
In one case, it pointed a technician to a faulty magnetic sensor after the problem first appeared to involve the elevator’s drive system.
Kone says its connected equipment can help identify up to 80% of potential faults before service is affected, while it has seen a 55% reduction in user entrapments on connected equipment.
The company also says nearly a quarter of incidents can be fixed remotely in under two minutes.
Kone is exploring AI to analyse how people move through buildings, alongside using it to predict faults and plan maintenance.
Kone has deployed an AI assistant to 15,000 maintenance technicians to help diagnose elevator and escalator faults.
Called Technician Assistant, the tool draws on technical documents, service histories and thousands of previous repairs.
It also uses information from a global network of about 800,000 connected units.
Kone says the assistant provides recommendations, while technicians retain responsibility for the final decision.

- Why
- To help technicians find and repair faults more quickly by drawing on technical information and previous cases.
This story does not have two clearly opposing sides.
The issue initially appeared to involve the elevator’s drive system.
The AI compared available information with thousands of similar cases and recommended checking a magnetic sensor on one floor.
The technician inspected the sensor and confirmed it was the source of the fault.

What people are saying
