Arsenal life president Ken Friar dies aged 92

Ken Friar, Arsenal’s life president, has died aged 92.

He was born in Islington and first joined the club in 1945, when he was 11, delivering messages at Highbury.

He spent more than seven decades working for Arsenal, becoming club secretary in 1973 and managing director in 1983.

Friar helped lead Arsenal’s move from Highbury to Emirates Stadium, which opened in 2006.

His death marks the loss of a figure the club says had an exceptional influence on its history.

Arsenal players will wear black armbands during Tuesday’s home Champions League match against Lille.

The club says further tributes will take place when Arsenal host Everton on Saturday, October 24.
