Benevento and Avellino draw in a derby with promotion stakes

Benevento and Avellino drew in a Campania derby at Benevento’s Ciro Vigorito stadium.

The match was played in heavy rain, which disrupted the game and contributed to mistakes.

Benevento showed more attacking intent, but defensive errors again cost them a full win against an organised Avellino side.

The draw matters because both teams are trying to remain in the promotion race, with the season still at an early stage.

Other contenders also dropped points, while Palermo was described as performing in a league of its own.

There are 11 rounds played, so the teams’ prospects will depend on how they develop rather than on the standings alone.

Both coaches believe their sides can stay in the promotion battle until the end.
