Seven million square metres of Saudi land enter development or sale

Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Municipalities and Housing says seven million square metres of land in Tabuk, Hail and Jazan have entered development or sale.

The figures come under a system that charges fees on undeveloped land and vacant properties.

About 5.3 million square metres have entered the market, while 1.3 million are being developed and 466,000 have been developed.

Revenue from the fees has supported 21 housing projects in the three regions, including work to prepare related infrastructure.

The ministry says the policy is intended to encourage owners to use idle land and increase the supply of homes and other property.

It aims to improve the balance between housing supply and demand in urban areas.

The ministry says it will continue efforts to bring unused land into development.
