China plans about 30 innovation centers for smaller businesses
China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology plans to build about 30 centers to support smaller businesses during the country's 2026–30 five-year period.
The centers will focus on particular industries and provide technical services to small and medium-sized businesses.
They are intended to connect companies with labs, research platforms, skilled people and funding.
The centers will help businesses tackle difficult technologies, turn research into products, develop standards and work together on innovation.
They will also support digital and greener upgrades and help companies find partners and markets.
Local governments will apply to set up centers, which will first operate for a trial period before being formally approved.
Centers will face annual performance reviews, and those that fail for two years in a row will lose their status.
