Kerala child rights panel opens inquiry into minor’s death

Kerala’s child rights commission has opened an inquiry into the death of a boy from Eriyad in Kodungallur.

He died on October 6, after being questioned in a case linked to an alleged Instagram fraud involving a minor girl.

The boy’s father says police harassed his sons and wrongly implicated them, and that the distress contributed to the younger boy’s death.

Police have denied allegations of torture and illegal detention.

The girl’s family has released an audio recording purportedly featuring the boy discussing a plan to threaten her family and demand money.

The allegations from both families are now under scrutiny, as the commission has asked the Thrissur District Police Chief and District Child Protection Officer for reports.

The boy’s family is seeking a detailed investigation into the officers’ conduct.
