Guadalajara airport plans second terminal to double capacity by 2029
Guadalajara is building a second terminal at its international airport in Jalisco, Mexico, and construction is 10% complete.
The terminal is planned to open in early 2029, though an airport executive also said it could be operating in late 2028.
It is part of airport operator GAP’s 2025–29 development plan, which also includes a second runway that is already operating, new road access and other facilities.
The plan includes nearly 23 billion pesos in investment to expand the airport.
With the new terminal, the airport is expected to handle more than 40 million passengers a year, a capacity currently held only by Mexico City’s airport.
The new terminal will cover 109,000 square metres and is planned to start with 19 commercial aircraft positions.

What people are saying
Basically, in 2029 we will have doubled and built a new airport on top of the current Guadalajara airport.
All the airport, including T2, will be able to handle more than 40 million passengers; today only Mexico City International Airport has that capacity.
If we maintain a theoretical rate of 5%, we will be at 30 million passengers in 10 years and above 40 million passengers in the next 20 years.
The new terminal will be operating toward the end of 2028, in the last quarter.
