Saudi Arabia begins construction of Riyadh farm produce processing plant
Saudi Arabia’s environment minister, Abdulrahman Al-Fadhli, laid the foundation stone for a new plant in Riyadh for Lin Alkhair.
The facility is designed to process and market more than 500,000 tonnes of produce a year, using crops grown locally.
It will sort, pack and store food, and make products such as ready-to-eat fruit, prepared vegetables, juices and meals.
The project is 36% complete, and work is expected to finish on 30 September 2027.
By turning some crops into prepared and processed foods, the plant aims to add value to local harvests and reduce food waste.
The project is also intended to give farmers more ways to market their produce and strengthen food supply chains.
