Giredmet begins making thallium nitrate for Russia’s electronics industry

Rosatom research company Giredmet has developed and begun producing thallium nitrate for Russia’s domestic market.

The work was carried out under a contract with Russia’s Ministry of Industry and Trade.

The new production meets the electronics industry’s demand, ending its reliance on foreign supplies for this component.

Giredmet says its production costs are 40% lower than foreign manufacturers’ prices.

Thallium nitrate is used in microelectronics and microwave electronics, including gold-plating contacts and making semiconductors.

The material also supports the production of microchip components and doped thin films, making it important to several parts of electronics manufacturing.

The sources do not say what further steps are planned.
