Sheinbaum launches national school choir contest in Mexico

President Claudia Sheinbaum launched a national school choir contest at the National Palace in Mexico City.

She said she hopes every public school in Mexico will have a choir, so children who want to sing can take part.

She invited teachers to promote music and Mexican culture among children and young people.

The contest has three categories: primary, secondary and Mexican Sign Language.

Culture Secretary Claudia Curiel said it will showcase songs from across the country and encourage community and solidarity.

Sheinbaum also invited children to come to Mexico City’s Zócalo in March to share Mexican culture.

This contest will make it possible to discover songs from across the country, from all its diversity, and that allows us to create an example of community and solidarity for a much more peaceful, empathetic country, and above all to learn to listen to one another as a community.

This contest is an invitation to recognize the transformative power of the arts, and because in the New Mexican School, educating is a deeply human act and the world needs to hear the voices of girls and boys, and of course our country also needs you to learn to listen to the voices of others.
