Four Indonesian Sekolah Rakyat schools receive Mandaya Awards

Four Sekolah Rakyat schools in Indonesia won awards at the 2026 Mandaya Awards, presented by the government’s Ministry for Community Empowerment.

The winners are in Kediri, Takalar, Bogor and Bandung Barat, and all provide secondary education.

Sekolah Rakyat is a government program for children from poor and disadvantaged families, with 44,200 children currently enrolled.

The government says the program also supports parents through LAKSMI, providing education and new skills to help families become more economically independent.

At the Takalar school, parents have trained to make crackers and other snacks, with materials and equipment provided through a local center.

The approach aims to support whole families, giving children access to education while helping parents improve their ability to earn income.

The materials were bought, and then the equipment was bought by the center. So, thank God, they are now used to it. Some have even started selling in small shops.
