GM to add OnStar AI assistant to 2027 Cadillac Lyriq
General Motors is adding an AI assistant to OnStar, its connected-car service, in a push to make its vehicles more useful through software.
The assistant will debut in the 2027 Cadillac Lyriq in the coming months, with other GM models to follow.
Drivers will be able to use voice commands to adjust some vehicle functions, plan electric-car charging stops and ask what warning lights mean.
A new OnStar app is planned for 2027 to work with the in-car software and replace the current OnStar Guardian and GM brand apps.
The changes come as GM has faced criticism and a Federal Trade Commission order over sharing some customer data; the company says recordings from its camera feature will be encrypted and time-limited.
GM is expanding OnStar beyond roadside assistance as carmakers compete to make software and connected features more central to vehicles.

The assistant will respond to voice commands, control some vehicle functions and answer questions about the vehicle.
More GM vehicles will follow, including the 2027 GMC Sierra and Chevrolet Silverado, according to a GM spokesperson.
GM plans to launch a new OnStar app in 2027, replacing the OnStar Guardian app and the apps for its Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet and GMC brands.
