Fabrizio Sala leaves Forza Italia and moves to Italy’s mixed group

Fabrizio Sala is leaving Forza Italia, a party in Italy’s governing coalition.

The lawmaker from Brianza, in Lombardy, says he no longer feels at home in the party where he began his political career.

He will join the mixed group in the Chamber of Deputies, which includes lawmakers not affiliated with a party group.

Sala says he will support Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni’s government and hopes to be re-elected in 2027.

Brothers of Italy is his likely destination, but a political agreement between Meloni and Forza Italia leader Antonio Tajani currently prevents coalition partners from recruiting each other’s lawmakers.

The move to the mixed group is an interim step while Sala waits for conditions to change.
