Woman rescued after 20 hours at sea off Greece

A 44-year-old Salvadoran woman was rescued after spending 20 hours in the Ionian Sea.

She had been a passenger on the Odyssey of the Seas, a Royal Caribbean cruise ship.

She told rescuers she jumped into the sea because she wanted to get off the ship.

A search began early Friday, involving Greek coast guard boats, a navy helicopter and nearby ships, including the cruise ship.

A passenger ferry found her in a life buoy early Saturday, conscious, and a Greek patrol boat picked her up.

She was taken to the port of Katakolo and then to a hospital in nearby Pyrgos for medical checks.

The checks include a psychiatric evaluation ordered by a local prosecutor.
