Nashik company ships wine equipment to Italy as Indian market grows
Nashik-based Envision Equipments shipped two wine tanks to Italy earlier this month, marking a first for the company.
Italy is a major centre for wine-machinery manufacturing, and the equipment is travelling from Mumbai’s Nhava Sheva port to Florence.
The shipment is small, but Indian wine-processing equipment has also gone to countries including Nepal, Sri Lanka and Uganda.
Machinery makers say their bigger opportunity is in India, where winery growth depends partly on state rules and support for new businesses.
Fruit-based wineries are appearing beyond traditional grape-growing areas, including in Uttar Pradesh, and could expand in states such as Rajasthan and Uttarakhand.
India has about 140 wineries, but only 50 to 60 are fully operational; the market is projected to grow to $2.6 billion by 2033.
Some state governments are consulting stakeholders about easing winery rules, and the industry’s next steps depend on whether those changes make it easier to set up wineries using locally grown fruit.
Nashik-based Envision Equipments shipped two wine-processing tanks to Florence, marking a first for specialised wine equipment imported by Italy from India.
The tanks have capacities of 2,000 litres and 1,200 litres, and the consignment was worth about $21,000.
The company says its longer-term growth depends more on India’s domestic winery industry than on exports.
Industry representatives say easing state regulations could help new wineries, including fruit-based producers, expand.
India’s wine market is expected to grow at nearly 15% annually, and the source synopsis says it could reach $2.6 billion by 2033.

What people are saying
What we have just exported is a small consignment, worth about 21,000, and we are in talks with our Italian buyer to export another 10 machines. But symbolically, it means a lot-Make-in-India wine equipment being shipped to none other than Italy,
Of late, UP has emerged as a new hotspot, with demand for wine equipment growing there. In fact, the emergence of fruit-based wineries beyond grapes could redraw India's wine map,
But I believe our growth will come increasingly from domestic wineries, provided more states relax their policies and make it easier to set up new wineries,
