Apple updates iMac and entry-level MacBook Pro with M6 chip

Apple unveiled M6 versions of its iMac and entry-level MacBook Pro on Oct 27.

The updates cover a 24-inch desktop and a 14-inch laptop, and their designs remain largely unchanged.

The M6 chip replaces older processors in both machines and is intended to improve computing and graphics performance.

Apple says the new iMac is up to five times faster for on-device AI tasks than its 2024 M4 model, while graphics performance on the MacBook Pro is 30% faster than its predecessor.

The computers also add Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6, and the laptop supports faster charging.

The iMac starts at US$1,499 and the MacBook Pro at US$1,999.

Pre-orders open Oct 28, with both models going on sale Nov 6; Apple is also expected to unveil its first touch-screen MacBook Pro on Oct 28.
