Egg prices in China fall as supply rises and demand eases

China's national wholesale egg price fell for a fourth straight week, with the average reaching 9.64 yuan per kilogram from October 12 to 18.

The price was down 4.3% from the previous week and 13.7% over four weeks.

Prices fell as holiday demand eased and egg supplies grew, with more hens entering peak production in major producing regions.

In Beijing's Xinfadi market, eggs cost 7.98 yuan per kilogram on October 21, 25% less than a month earlier.

Most farms are still making a profit, although their margins have narrowed; some have cut costs through automation and bulk feed purchases.

Egg supply is plentiful across China, while consumption is expected to enter its traditional slow season.

Prices are expected to remain weak as the market has more supply than demand for now.
