Brazilian police seek more time to investigate Lula’s son
Brazil’s Federal Police asked for more time to investigate Fábio Luís Lula da Silva, known as Lulinha, the son of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
The inquiry concerns alleged influence-peddling and corruption involving businesses and public officials; no wrongdoing has been established.
Investigators are examining financial movements, travel and business links involving Lulinha, lobbyist Roberta Luchsinger and businessman Antônio Carlos Camilo Antunes.
They are also checking whether the group’s dealings affected rules on medical cannabis and whether trips to Portugal were connected to other people under investigation.
The inquiry grew from links between Luchsinger and Antunes, who is accused of helping operate a scheme involving illegal deductions from retirees’ benefits.
Luchsinger’s lawyer says the case should be closed, while Lulinha’s lawyers had not responded; police sent the extension request to Supreme Court Justice André Mendonça, and the sources do not say whether he has decided it.

What people are saying
It is therefore necessary to extend the deadline for completing the ongoing investigative steps, whose results are essential not only to properly clarify the facts, but also to define any new investigative measures needed to fully resolve the case.
The investigation has already lasted a year without there being absolutely anything to justify such an extension. It seems to me that the natural course should be to close it.
