China launches consumer-trust labels across four digital platforms
China’s market regulator has launched a consumer-trust labeling program to help people find businesses that make commitments on safety, quality, prices, service and consumer rights.
The program connects a national consumer platform, called Consumer Check, with Baidu Maps, JD.com, Taobao Flash Sale and Meituan.
More than 10,000 businesses have joined the national platform, and the three shopping platforms have initially labeled about 3,000 restaurants.
Customers can search for labeled businesses on the map or in food-delivery apps and see the businesses’ consumer commitments.
The labels are intended to help shoppers make decisions, while regulators can act against businesses that break their promises and the platforms can remove their labels.
The program is operating in nine cities, and officials plan to promote it nationwide.
