Chepkirui and Almgren win the 2026 New York City Marathon
Kenya’s Sheila Chepkirui won the women’s race in 2:24:36, claiming her second New York City Marathon title in three years.
Sweden’s Andreas Almgren won the men’s race in his marathon debut, finishing in 2:06:01.
American Jess McClain outsprinted Hellen Obiri for second place, becoming the first American woman on the New York podium since 2018.
The race’s late hills make runners’ footwear a point of interest, and athletes near the top wore shoes from brands including Nike, Adidas, On and Xtep.
Chepkirui ran in Adidas’s Adizero Adios Pro Evo 3, while Almgren won in Nike’s unreleased Apex racing shoe.
The Apex is expected to go on sale in January 2027, and the results showed several brands represented among the fastest runners.
