Ramayana makers plan spin-offs and a wider entertainment franchise
Producer Namit Malhotra says Ramayana will grow beyond two films into a wider entertainment franchise.
He outlined the plans at a pre-release event in Hyderabad for director Nitesh Tiwari’s two-part epic.
About five spin-off projects are planned, with stories based on Hanuman, Surpanakha, Jatayu, Indrajit and Angad teased.
The broader plan also includes video games, merchandise, theme park experiences, a Broadway musical and virtual and augmented reality projects.
The expansion aims to bring the Ramayana world to audiences in more ways than cinema alone.
The makers have not said whether the spin-offs will be films or series; the first Ramayana film is scheduled for worldwide release on November 5, 2026, and the second for Diwali 2027.
