Morena dispute grows over Quintana Roo governor selection
Morena has named Eugenio “Gino” Segura as its likely candidate for governor of Quintana Roo in Mexico’s 2027 election.
The decision followed surveys, but Morena lawmaker Marybel Villegas Canché said their results were not real or reliable.
She called the surveys manipulated and said she would not seek a municipal candidacy through the process.
Citlalli Hernández denied responsibility for the surveys, saying she leads Morena’s National Elections Commission, not its Survey Commission.
Segura’s selection also drew protests from supporters of another contender, Rafael Marín Mollinedo, who shouted “fraud” at the announcement in Mexico City.
Quintana Roo authorities reviewed complaints about early promotion of Segura, including signs bearing his name, but did not establish that he was directly responsible.
Segura has denied campaigning early, and he is now positioned as Morena’s prospective candidate for the state’s 2027 governor race.
Morena’s selection of Eugenio “Gino” Segura as its Quintana Roo coordinator has prompted criticism from former governor hopeful Marybel Villegas Canché.
Villegas says Morena’s surveys were unreliable and alleges they were manipulated.
Citlalli Hernández, who chairs Morena’s National Elections Commission, said she does not conduct the surveys.
Villegas is considering whether to seek a municipal coordination role in Morena and is talking with leaders of other parties, including the PT’s Alberto Anaya.
She has not confirmed plans to run for governor under the PT, and said no agreement has been reached.

What people are saying
It is a mockery of Morena supporters in the state and in the country, where these manipulated surveys by Citlalli have been exposed.
There are talks we will have. I would not want to comment on something that is not yet there; there is nothing.
Perhaps Deputy Marybel Villegas does not know the inner workings of Morena, its statutes or internal bodies, because I am president of the National Elections Commission, not the Polling Commission. I do not see how I could manipulate a survey if I do not conduct them.
