Storms in São Paulo state kill two and leave dozens displaced

Heavy rain and strong winds hit several municipalities in São Paulo state from Sunday into Monday.

The state Civil Defense sent 92 alerts to residents, by text message and mobile broadcast.

In the capital, a leisure-area roof collapsed, killing two people and injuring nine.

Storm-related damage also included fallen trees, flooding, landslides and damage to homes and roads.

In Apiaí, 47 people were displaced after 18 homes were damaged, while five people left a flooded home in Martinópolis.

The state Civil Defense and Fire Department are monitoring incidents, and officials are preparing emergency supplies for Martinópolis.

Some roads remained closed or partly blocked, and fallen trees and power lines disrupted electricity in several towns.
