Genesis Energy adds customers and commissions first large-scale battery
New Zealand energy company Genesis Energy reported a 0.7% rise in customers in the first quarter of FY27, reaching 493,450.
Electricity sales, hydro generation and thermal generation were all lower than in the same period a year earlier.
Strong hydro storage helped the company use less thermal generation and keep Huntly Unit 5 mostly idle.
Genesis commissioned the first stage of its Huntly battery project, with capacity of 100 MW and 200 MWh.
The company is also developing solar projects, with construction at Tihori Solar on track and a final investment decision made for Leeston Solar.
Tihori Solar is due for completion in Q1 FY28, while work on Leeston Solar and the battery project’s second stage is expected to proceed; Genesis says its wider growth plan remains on track.
Genesis Energy reported a 0.7% increase in customer numbers to 493,450 in the first quarter of FY27.
The company commissioned the first 100 MW/200 MWh stage of its Huntly Battery Energy Storage System.
Total electricity sales fell by 108 GWh from the same period a year earlier, to 1,766 GWh.
