Bayern prepare for Viking match on artificial turf
Bayern Munich are preparing to face Viking FK in Norway in the Champions League.
The match is scheduled for Tuesday at SR-Bank Arena, where the playing surface is artificial turf.
Coach Vincent Kompany changed the team’s preparation so players can train on the pitch before the game and get used to the ball’s movement and choose suitable footwear.
Kompany said he has never played on artificial turf in his 20-year career, and several Bayern players have little recent experience on it.
He said the surface would not be a problem or an excuse, and urged his team to show the same mindset wherever they play.
Viking are returning to Europe’s top competition after 34 years, according to one account, and the match is a special occasion for the Norwegian club.
Bayern say they are treating the Champions League match as an important challenge, and the result will be decided on Tuesday.
Seal: none.
The team’s next step is to play the match after its training session on the artificial surface.
