Bengaluru airport says Kannadigas are most of its workforce
BIAL says Kannadigas make up most of the workforce at Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru.
The statement came after pro-Kannada group Karnataka Rakshana Vedike met representatives of 14 companies operating at the airport to seek more jobs for local people.
KRV said the companies saw room to increase Kannadiga representation and promised to step up local hiring over the next year.
BIAL says airport expansion will create more jobs for people from Karnataka across several sectors.
The meeting is part of KRV’s month-long campaign, launched on November 1, asking private companies across the state about their workforce and hiring.
The dispute has revived debate over a proposed 2024 bill that would reserve private-sector jobs for local candidates; it was put on hold after industry objections.
Karnataka Chief Minister DK Shivakumar has urged companies to offer more jobs to locals while warning pro-Kannada groups not to use intimidation or take the law into their own hands.
