Angie Nixon challenges Ashley Moody in Florida Senate election

Florida voters are choosing between Republican Sen.

Ashley Moody and Democrat Angie Nixon in a special election for the U.S. Senate.

The winner will serve the final two years of Marco Rubio’s term, which opened when he resigned in January 2025 to become secretary of state.

Gov.

Ron DeSantis appointed Moody, a former Florida attorney general, to replace him.

Affordability and the economy are major concerns for voters, with housing, insurance and other costs part of the debate.

Moody has highlighted economic policies and public safety, while Nixon has focused on the cost of living, health care and support for families.

Most polls give Moody an advantage, but Nixon’s campaign says it has momentum heading into election night.

The vote will decide who represents Florida in the Senate for the rest of Rubio’s term.
