Maple Leafs acquire Aatu Räty from Canucks for two forwards
The Toronto Maple Leafs acquired forward Aatu Räty from the Vancouver Canucks on Thursday, sending forwards Brandon Buhr and Jacob Quillan to Vancouver.
Räty is 23 and has played for both the Canucks and the New York Islanders in the NHL.
He has one goal in four games with Vancouver this season, and has scored 14 goals and recorded 29 points in 118 career NHL games.
He was drafted by the Islanders in the second round in 2021 and later joined Vancouver in a trade involving Bo Horvat.
Räty cleared waivers earlier Thursday, which means Toronto can assign him to its AHL team, the Marlies, under the conditions described by the teams’ roster rules.
Toronto is adding a young forward with NHL experience, while Vancouver receives two forwards who have not appeared in an NHL game this season.
It is not yet clear when Räty will join Toronto’s lineup or whether he will start with the Marlies.
