UAE plans to send 30 million barrels of oil to Indonesia
The UAE plans to send Indonesia 30 million barrels of crude oil, according to Djoko Siswanto, head of Indonesia’s upstream oil and gas regulator, SKK Migas.
The shipment is described as having no working-capital charge and free shipping, but that does not establish that the oil itself is free.
Djoko shared the news after accompanying Energy Minister Bahlil Lahadalia to a meeting with the UAE ambassador and Mubadala’s president.
The meeting also covered progress on a gas project in Andaman, Aceh, which is at the front-end engineering design stage.
The oil plan comes as Djoko called it good news for Indonesia amid uncertain geopolitical conditions.
The delivery schedule, payment terms and other details remain unclear, and no further next steps were given.
Indonesia is still exploring a potential crude oil supply of up to 30 million barrels from the United Arab Emirates, Energy Minister Bahlil Lahadalia said on October 28.
The statement followed SKK Migas head Djoko Siswanto’s account that the UAE would send the oil without charge and cover shipping costs.
Djoko said the proposal was discussed at a meeting in Jakarta on October 27 involving Bahlil and the UAE ambassador.
Details including the delivery schedule, cooperation mechanism and financing arrangements have not been provided.
The meeting also covered progress on a gas project in the Andaman Block, offshore Aceh.
