Taiwanese entrepreneur plans Guangxi battery separator factory

Taiwanese entrepreneur Chen Minfu is expanding battery materials production in Nanning, Guangxi.

His company makes separators used in lithium- and sodium-ion batteries, as well as other advanced materials.

Guangxi has built a battery industry chain that spans materials, cells, batteries and equipment, giving local suppliers nearby customers.

The company and Hong Kong partners plan to invest about 500 million yuan in a new industrial base.

Once operating at full capacity, it is expected to make 1 billion square metres of dry-process lithium battery separators a year and generate 800 million yuan in annual output value.

Chen says the planned Pinglu Canal could reduce the cost of bringing in raw materials from Southeast Asia and improve shipping for exports.

The company aims to expand sales in ASEAN and build a supply and service network for RCEP member countries.
