Turkey plans social housing to help reduce inflation

Deputy President Cevdet Yılmaz presented Turkey’s 2027 budget proposal to a parliamentary commission.

He said the government wants social and rental housing projects to increase supply and improve access to homes.

The plan is meant to help curb inflation by addressing housing supply, rather than only demand.

The government estimates inflation will be 28.4% at the end of 2026 and aims to bring it down to 21% by the end of 2027.

Yılmaz also said public spending, excluding earthquake-related costs, would be kept under control as the budget deficit is gradually reduced.

The budget proposal and the 2025 final accounts proposal are now being discussed by the commission; the government says it will keep working to reduce inflation until it reaches single digits.
