Dongwha Pharmaceutical launches combination treatment for mixed dyslipidemia

Dongwha Pharmaceutical launched Pravafen Capsules in South Korea on October 22 for a form of abnormal blood-fat levels called mixed dyslipidemia.

The medicine is intended for high-risk adults whose LDL is controlled but triglycerides remain high and HDL low despite treatment with pravastatin alone.

LDL is often called “bad” cholesterol, while HDL is often called “good” cholesterol; triglycerides are another type of fat in the blood.

One capsule combines pravastatin and fenofibric acid: pravastatin lowers LDL, while fenofibric acid helps lower triglycerides and improve HDL.

It is approved to be taken once each evening, with or without food, and the company says the capsule is smaller than existing combination products.

Dongwha plans to hold a launch symposium in Seoul on October 31 to discuss treatment strategies and the medicine’s clinical use.
