Indonesia’s Energy Transition Is on Track, Deputy Minister Says

Deputy Energy Minister Yuliot says Indonesia’s energy transition is on track toward greater energy independence and wider benefits for the country.

He pointed to oil production of 605,300 barrels a day in 2025, slightly above the government’s target of 605,000.

The government is aiming for 610,000 barrels a day this year, but Yuliot said obstacles have made that target difficult to reach.

Indonesia made B50 biodiesel mandatory in July 2026, which Yuliot said replaces about 310,000 barrels a day of oil use; the country consumes 1.6 million barrels a day and still imports fuel.

The national electrification rate is 99.85 percent, and the government says it is working to connect every village to electricity.

It is also promoting 18 priority projects for energy security and downstream processing, with planned investment of about 618 trillion rupiah, mostly outside Java.

Yuliot says work remains to reduce energy imports and improve reliable supply, and the government aims to strengthen energy security and investment conditions.
