BYD to launch larger, more powerful Seagull EV in China on October 20
BYD will launch its updated Seagull in China on October 20.
The small electric car is BYD’s most affordable model in China, where the current version starts at 69,900 yuan, about $10,000.
The new version is 425 mm longer and seats five, compared with the current model.
Its motor rises to 95 kW, and its two battery options are listed with ranges of 320 km and 420 km under China’s testing standard.
Some higher-priced versions will offer charging from 10% to 97% in nine minutes.
The changes matter as BYD faces growing competition in the low-cost electric-car market, and the Seagull is among the world’s top-selling EVs.
The car is sold overseas under names including Dolphin Surf and Dolphin Mini, but BYD has not confirmed overseas launch plans or the new price; prices are due at the China launch.
BYD will launch the second-generation Seagull in China on October 20.
The updated electric hatchback is larger and has a more powerful rear-wheel-drive motor than the current model.
It measures 4,205 mm long and has a 2,650 mm wheelbase, with seating for five.
Two battery options are expected to provide CLTC ranges of up to 320 km and 420 km.
The car supports flash charging, which can charge the battery from 10% to 97% in nine minutes.
